Dave Grohl was raised by a single mother in Springfield, Virginia who remains his best friend to this day.
He grew up as an awkward looking kid, who was also accident-prone, who was drawn to the world of music.
At 18 he became a drummer for the band Scream and went on the road.
Then he joined the Seattle band Nirvana, which went on to become the biggest band in the world.
After the death of the singer Kurt Cobain, Dave considered leaving music altogether, but he gradually found the strength to start his own band, the Foo Fighters.
His global fame led him to some bizarre and memorable moments like dancing with AC/DC, drumming for Tom Petty and reading bedtime stories with Joan Jett.
