Sisonke Msimang was born in exile, the daughter of a freedom fighter who had fled South Africa during apartheid.
She was raised in Zambia, Kenya and Canada, waiting for the day Nelson Mandela would be released from prison, and home would become safe for her family to return.
Eventually that day happened, and Sisonke joined the generation of young South Africans making change there.
But this wouldn't be Sisonke's final destination: as a mother, she would have to find another, safer home a world away from South Africa.
