In the early 1960s, in the heat of the space race, a Russian Cosmonaut named Yuri Gagarin became the first man to enter space and orbit the earth.
He blasted into the skies inside a tiny cannonball-shaped capsule.
It was on top of a modified missile, and replaced the nuclear warhead it was originally designed for.
Eleven minutes after the launch, Yuri was in orbit, hurtling around the earth at ten times the speed of a rifle bullet.
But his re-entry to the earth's atmosphere was more perilous than anyone could have imagined.
The truth about Gagarin's amazing voyage was kept under wraps for decades.
Documentary maker and author Stephen Walker has discovered what happened before, during and after the history-making flight.
