Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, questioned former special counsel Robert Mueller during his July 24 testimony before the House Intelligence Committee about whether Trump associates lied on multiple occasions to maintain the "party line." Castro said the spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the Russia investigation in similar terms. Mueller said he could not speak to that characterization. Mueller, who led an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible ties to President Donald Trump’s campaign, agreed to appear before Congress, but warned he would not go beyond what was already documented in his final report.
