Bill Taylor, the top diplomat to Ukraine testified in the first public impeachment hearing that one of his staff members overheard a phone call in which President Donald Trump asked Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, about “the investigations.” After the call, which came one day after a call between Trump and the Ukrainian president, Sondland told the staff member that Trump cares more about the investigations of the Bidens than about Ukraine. Taylor said the information was not included in his original October testimony because the staff member only recently told him about the exchange. The impeachment inquiry centers on whether Trump pressured Ukraine to investigate his political rivals during that July phone call.
