Rep. Adam Schiff, the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, questioned Kurt Volker, the former U.S. special envoy to Ukraine, on why he amended his opening statement as part of his testimony on Nov. 19, in a public hearing as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. Schiff asked Volker why certain details surfaced in the opening statement that didn't appear in his previous hours of closed-door deposition in October. Volker said he learned additional things since then that reminded him of details that he then included in his opening statement during the public hearing. The impeachment probe centers around a July phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
