Rep. Devin Nunes, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, accused Democrats of blocking witnesses Republicans have requested, in the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. Nunes and other Republicans are seeking witnesses relating to the Ukrainian energy company, Burisma. Hunter Biden, the son of former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden, served on Burisma's board. “We’re not going to get to the answer to many of these questions because the witnesses that need to come in and clarify exactly what the Democrats were doing in 2016, we are not going to be able to visit with those witnesses,” Nunes said during a Nov. 20 hearing featuring Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union. Sondland testified earlier in the hearing that there was a “quid pro quo” in which U.S. aid and a White House meeting were contingent on Ukraine agreeing to investigate the 2016 elections and Burisma.
