In a round of follow-up questions, Rep. Adam Schiff, the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, questioned Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, about why he did not make the connection between Ukrainian energy company Burisma and the Bidens earlier. Sondland testified that he did not realize the two were related until the connection became public knowledge because of a July 25 phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s president. Sondland appeared before the House Intelligence Committee as part of the impeachment hearings into Trump. Sondland had earlier testified that there was a “quid pro quo” in which U.S. aid and a White House meeting were contingent on Ukraine agreeing to investigate Burisma. Former Vice President Joe Biden's son, Hunter, served on Burisma's board.
