Republican counsel Stephen Castor questioned Fiona Hill, the White House’s former top Russia adviser, and David Holmes, a top staffer at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, on Nov. 20, in a public hearing as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. Responding to Castor's questioning, Fiona described some "testy encounters" with Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, that indicated that he wasn't "coordinating with us" on Ukraine. After saying she may have been a "bit rude" with Sondland, Hill added, "often when women show anger it's not fully appreciated, it's often pushed onto emotional issues, perhaps, or deflected on to other people." Hill further said that Sondland was engaged in a "domestic political errand" rather than following "national security policy." The impeachment inquiry has focused on a July 25 phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
