In an impassioned speech, Rep. Adam Schiff, the lead House manager in the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump, highlighted the damage he said Trump has done to the U.S. by pushing Ukraine to investigate the Bidens for his own personal, political gain. Schiff said Trump’s actions allowed Russia to claim a major success while fighting a war with Ukraine. “I would submit to you, that in the entire length of the Cold War, had no such success,” Schiff said, later adding. “Was it worth it? I hope it was worth it. I hope it was worth it for the president, because it certainly wasn’t worth it for the United States.” The House of Representatives impeached the president in December on two articles -- abuse of power and obstruction of Congress—for his alleged efforts to get Ukraine to investigate his political rivals in exchange for lifting a hold on U.S. military aid. The Senate trial will determine whether Trump is convicted of the two articles of impeachment and removed from office or whether he is acquitted.
