Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., asked House managers in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial what would happen if the Senate does not pursue all the relevant evidence. The senators pointed to a leaked video of Trump ordering some of his associates to “get rid” of the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine. Rep. Adam Schiff, the lead House manager, warned that new evidence could indeed come to light after the Senate issues its verdict and told senators they did not need to be “confined” to the witnesses that were called in the House. Senators had their first chance to ask questions of the House managers and Trump’s legal team on Wednesday, Jan. 29. That came after both sides were given three days, respectively, to present their case. The House of Representatives impeached Trump in December on two articles--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The questions come ahead of a vote on whether to bring forward witnesses and documents as part of the Senate trial. The senate must now decide whether to acquit the president or convict him of the charges and remove him from office.
