WATCH: NSC said only their staff has reviewed Bolton’s manuscript, Philbin says - First impeachment

Asked when President Donald Trump’s counsel first learned that former national security adviser John Bolton’s manuscript had been submitted to the National Security Council for review, Deputy White House counsel Patrick Philbin said he didn’t recall the exact date. Reacting to a question about whether there was any attempt to block or prevent Bolton’s book from being published, Philbin read a letter from NSC staff to Bolton’s attorney last week that stated the manuscript contained top-secret information that under federal law could not be published in its current form. Senators had their first chance to ask questions of the House managers and Trump’s legal team on Wednesday, Jan. 29. That came after both sides were given three days, respectively, to present their case. The House of Representatives impeached Trump in December on two articles -- abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The questions come ahead of a vote on whether to bring forward witnesses and documents as part of the Senate trial. The Senate must now decide whether to acquit the president or convict him of the charges and remove him from office.
