1:42Now PlayingAsked about President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the U.S. economy has performed at its best ever under his tenure, economist Lee Ohanian noted that worker compensation growth under Trump (prior to the COVID-19 pandemic) rose to levels not seen since Bill Clinton was president. The average worker's pay, adjusted for inflation, has risen more under Trump than under Obama. “It’s certainly one of the best economies we’ve had in an awful long time,” Ohanian said, but cautioned it would be hard to say whether the economy under Trump is the very best Americans have ever seen. Ohanian spoke with PBS NewsHour political reporter Daniel Bush ahead of the first night of the Republican National Convention.
