Charges were filed against the couple, drawing criticism from Republican officials; the state’s attorney general asked the court to throw out the charges, and the governor said he would pardon the couple if convicted.The party planned a mix of virtual and in-person events in North Carolina and Washington, D.C., for its nominating convention after the coronavirus pandemic interrupted plans for a traditional nominating event.
