17:46Now PlayingTeamsters President Sean O'Brien spoke Monday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, two days after an assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.
The suspected shooter, who was killed by law enforcement, killed one person and seriously injured two.
O'Brien is the first Teamsters union president to speak at a Republican National Convention. In his speech, he said the American worker is being taken for granted.
"The American people aren't stupid. They know the system is broken. We all know how Washington is run. Working people have no chance of winning this fight. That's why I'm here today, because I refuse to keep doing the same things my predecessors did," O'Brien said.
"Against gigantic multinational corporations, an individual worker has zero power. It's only when Americans band together in democratic unions that we win real improvements on wages, benefits and working conditions," O'Brien said. "Remember, elites have no party. Elites have no nation. Their loyalty is to the balance sheet. And the stock price at the expense of the American worker."
During the convention, delegates will adopt a party platform and Trump will formally accept the Republican nomination for president. On Monday, Trump named Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate.
