1:41Now PlayingRep. Mike Turner questioned Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle in a House Oversight hearing Monday about the July 13 attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump in at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The Ohio Republican asked the head of the U.S Secret Service whether she was briefed on the specific intelligence of an Iranian plot to assassinate Trump. There’s no known connection of the gunman who attempted to kill the former president at the campaign rally and the intel about Iran.
Turner suggested that the protection plan for Trump wasn’t properly assessed, given the intel about the Iran plot.
Cheatle said she believed the security plan for the day of the assassination attempt was sufficient, but added there were “gaps and a failure that day.”
Turner then called for Cheatle to resign and if she refused to do so, “President Biden needs to fire you.”
