1:00Now PlayingVice President Kamala Harris said in the presidential debate Tuesday that former President Donald Trump’s economic vision boils down to tax breaks for the richest people.
“Donald Trump has no plan for you,” Harris said. “I am offering what I describe as an opportunity economy and the best economists in our country, if not the world, have reviewed our relative plans for the future of America. What Goldman Sachs has said is that Donald Trump's plan would make the economy worse. Mine would strengthen the economy.”
Harris said the economic experts at the Wharton School said Trump’s plan would “explode the deficit.”
“I'd invite you to know that Donald Trump actually has no plan for you because he is more interested in defending himself than he is in looking out for you,” Harris said.
Harris and Trump met for their first and possibly only debate on Sept. 10, hosted by ABC in Philadelphia. Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee this summer after Biden gave a troubling debate performance in June, increasing calls for him to drop out of the race.
According to the latest PBS News/NPR/Marist poll, more than two-thirds of Americans say they will watch all or most of the debate. While many voters have already made up their minds, 14 percent of Americans say the debate will have a great impact on which candidate they choose.
