WATCH: Harris’ immigration policies are creating ‘massive problems,’ Vance says

Ohio Sen. JD Vance said during Tuesday’s vice presidential debate that Vice President Kamala Harris’ record on border policies has contributed to high levels of illegal crossings and fentanyl smuggling into the U.S. from Mexico, among other “massive problems.”

“Kamala Harris went out bragging that she was going to undo Donald Trump's border policies. She did exactly that. We had a record number of illegal crossings,” he said, often sparring with opponent Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on this issue during the debate.

Vance claims that Harris has open-border policies that lead to “massive problems” in a range of other areas, like “parents who can't afford health care, schools that are overwhelmed, it's got to stop and it will when Donald Trump is president.”

Vance and Walz are facing each other in their first, and possibly last, vice presidential debate, hosted by CBS in New York on Oct. 1.

Both are relatively unknown to the broader American public. Walz was a U.S. House member before becoming governor of Minnesota. Vance is in his first term as a senator from Ohio.
