8:06Now PlayingSen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., questioned defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth in a confirmation hearing Tuesday held by the Senate Committee on Armed Services.
Blumenthal asked Hegseth about allegations of financial mismanagement at two veterans advocacy organizations that the nominee had led — Veterans for Freedom and Concerned Veterans for America — both of which racked up significant deficits and debts during his tenure.
“That’s not the kind of fiscal management we want at the Department of Defense,” Blumenthal said.
Hegseth is a military veteran and conservative media personality. President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for defense secretary has faced allegations of sexual misconduct and excessive drinking, and been criticized as a nominee for his controversial views on diversity and religion in the military.
