7:03Now PlayingSen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., questioned defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth in a confirmation hearing Tuesday held by the Senate Committee on Armed Services.
Cotton picked up on questions first raised by New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen on Hegseth's comments about women serving in the military, and also offered him a moment to respond to criticism regarding his position on the Israel and Hamas war.
"I'm a Christian and I robustly support the state of Israel and its existential defense and the way America comes alongside them as a great ally," Hegseth said. "I support Israel destroying and killing every last member of Hamas."
Hegseth is a military veteran and conservative media personality. President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for defense secretary has faced allegations of sexual misconduct and excessive drinking, and been criticized as a nominee for his controversial views on diversity and religion in the military.
