4:00Now PlayingSen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., questioned U.S. attorney general nominee Pam Bondi in a confirmation hearing Wednesday held by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Hawley mentioned an FBI memo, which was later withdrawn, that warned of possible threats from self-identified Catholic extremists. Hawley and other Republicans have pointed to that memo as evidence of the agency targeting Catholics and other conservatives for their beliefs.
Hawley asked Bondi, if confirmed, if she would formally rescind the memo.
Bondi said she’ll review the matter and “do the right thing just like I told senators on both sides of the aisle regarding their issues.”
Hawley also asked Bondi for her commitment to administering the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, a fund that compensates people exposed to nuclear radiation by the government, fairly and equitably.
Bondi is a former Florida attorney general and has been a longtime ally of President-elect Donald Trump. This is the first of two hearings the committee has scheduled for the nominee.
