as posted by the channelThe State Department must end its diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility requirements on "day one" of the new Trump administration, Sen. Jim Risch, R-Idaho, said Wednesday in his opening statement at the confirmation hearing for secretary of state nominee Marco Rubio.
“The outgoing administration often undercut effective foreign policy by inserting ideological and political requirements into the fabric of personnel decisions and policy execution, rather than making hires or promotions based on merit and effectiveness,” the chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations said.
He also said “foreign assistance is not charity,” adding that the U.S. spends money worldwide without ever accomplishing its goals.
Rubio, the senior senator from Florida, was a one-time Republican presidential hopeful who ran against President-elect Donald Trump. A former member of the Senate panel holding his confirmation hearing, Rubio also serves on the Select Committee on Intelligence.
