26:16Now PlayingDr. LaKeisha Gantt announced her candidacy for Athens-Clarke County Mayor on September 20, 2025. Gantt led an announcement tour at three locations relevant to her lifetime in Athens and her focus on education and public policy.
The tour began at 297 Hawthorne Avenue, near the entrance to Columbia Brookside Apartments. It continued at the former Maddox Center on Magnolia Street and concluded with a speech in front of City Hall.
The tour emphasized Gantt’s desire to bring government to the people and lift unheard voices. “How I run the race is as important as winning,” says Gantt. “I’ve spent my life helping people heal, and I know that we as a city are not healthy unless everyone feels heard.”
