ACC Board of Education member Tim Denson kicked off his campaign for mayor at Athentic last weekend, focusing on the issues of housing, childcare and affordability.

“We do not have to accept a world where working class people have to choose between housing and healthcare. We do not have to accept an Athens where families can’t afford childcare. We do not have to accept an Athens where the most vulnerable people, vulnerable neighbors in our community are left having to fend for themselves on the streets. And we do not have to accept a world where who you love is a sin, where you were born is a crime and the darkness of your skin can mean you get less. I refuse, I absolutely refuse to accept that as our reality. And I think that all of y’all being here today also refuse to accept that. That is why I am running for Mayor of Athens-Clarke County. Because we can make such a better world, such a better city. I am pledging that I will fight to protect Athens from government overreach and will use every avenue to stop Trump, to stop ICE and stop any of the fascist movements that are trying to rip our communities apart. I’m here to say hands off our people, hands off our elections, hands off our diversity efforts, hands off Athens! This is our community and we are going to fight for it and fight for the people who live here.”
