Newly elected State Rep Eric Gisler filed a resolution last week to reaffirm that providing sensitive, unredacted voter data to the Trump administration would be a violation of state law.
“I’m rising today, I’m asking for support for what I think should be a nonpartisan resolution…it’s simply asking this body to reaffirm that current Georgia law prohibits the secretary of state from sending private voter data to the Department of Justice. That’s it, that’s what I’m asking for.”
Trump’s DOJ sued Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger for not releasing the data, which includes our dates of birth, drivers’ license numbers and the last four digits of our social security numbers.
But why does Trump need these things? Elections are run by the states as it says in the Constitution.
“But when you see some of these states about how horribly they run their elections, what a disgrace it is. When you see crooked elections, and we had plenty of them, rigged, crooked elections. You go take a look at Atlanta, look at some of the places that had horrible corruption on elections. The federal government should not allow that. The federal government should get involved.”
Five Democrats have co-sponsored Gisler’s resolution, but so far, no Republican in the Georgia House has expressed their support.
