While #danielpenny is on trial in lower Manhattan for manslaughter , a murderous rampage unfolded today (11/18/24) across the borough of Manhattan, in broad daylight, when a butcher knife wielding mentally ill homeless man repeatedly and randomly stabbed 2 men and a woman - the first in Chelsea at 444 W 19 St, the second at 30th & the FDR Drive near the old Water Club, and the third near the United Nations building at East 42nd St & First Avenue, in full view of several witnesses.
During the stream, the news broke that the 3rd victim, a 36 year old female, succumbed to her injuries and has also died, along with a 36 year old construction worker and a 68 year old man who was fishing in the East River. May they rest in peace. We also learned that the suspect, 51 year old Ramon Rivera, a homeless man with an extensive criminal record and reported mental health issues has allegedly confessed to the unprovoked stabbings. He had reportedly been residing at the Bellevue Men's Shelter at 30th St & 1st Avenue in Kips Bay.
According to the New York Post, Rivera’s rap sheet includes five burglary arrests going back to December 2023, along with a petit larceny collar that month, mostly in Manhattan, sources said.
He also was arrested for assaulting a corrections officer in May inside Bellevue Hospital’s psychiatric center, according to sources.
In October, Rivera was arrested on a grand larceny charge after prosecutors said he stole a nearly $1,500 acrylic bowl from a shop in Tribeca, sources said.
Court records show he pleaded not guilty and was released on bail with non-monetary conditions.
He also pleaded guilty to burglary and assault charges from three separate cases in recent months, for which he received jail time, sources said.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams said it’s unclear why the suspect was back on the streets, and called it a "systemic failure."
