With Hitler's seizure of power in 1933, the Obersalzberg and the „Berghof“, quickly became the second centre of government.
The area around the Berghof was declared a safety zone and whenever Hitler was present at Obersalzberg, the Reichs Security Service, or abbreviated „RSD“ had to provide personal protection.
The Gasthof „Zum Tuerken“, situated directly above Hitler's estate, was the ideal location to accomodate this special unit under the command of brigade leader „Hans Rattenhuber“.
It was Martin Bormann who forcibly expropriated the former owner of the „Tuerken“ and turned it into a security centre.
