2:48Now PlayingFlooding pounded Italy amid heavy rains over the weekend, leaving a stretch of elevated highway collapsed by a landslide, officials said.
The weather has trapped travellers, downed trees and unleashed mudslides in parts of both Italy and France.
A 30-metre (100-foot) section of highway along a viaduct near the flooded Italian coastal city of Savona collapsed, leaving cars perched perilously on a precipice.
Drone footage taken by firefighters on Monday showed the extent of the damage where the raised part of the A6 highway had dropped onto a wooded area of the Liguria region.
Liguria Governor Giovanni Toti said a landslide caused the collapse in a muddy, hilly area.
Firefighters were using dogs to sniff out any possible victims in two-meter (6.5 feet) high debris of mud, Toti said.
There were no reports of witnesses seeing vehicles fall with the roadway, but the search continued on Monday as a precaution.
The roadway gave way about 1.5 kilometers (a mile) outside of Savona on the highway that links that Riviera city to Turin.
Heavy rains hit Italy but Liguria was the most severely damaged.
Another mudslide isolated the village of Pieve di Teco, in the Imperia province, near the border with France.
No casualties were reported, but the mud slide swept away several cars.
Venice centre was also flooded again by the tide on Sunday morning and tourists were seen walking on raised platforms, while the landmark Florian café was partially inundated by the lagoon high waters.
According to the Italian air force weather forecast the meteorological conditions are improving.
