1:29Now PlayingAn exhibition to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women went on display in Brussels on Monday, with red-painted shoes placed in a central square to symbolize women killed by violence.
The outdoor installation, inspired by award-winning Mexican artist, Elina Chauvet, hopes to raise awareness to combat violence aimed at women.
A similar installation is also on display in the neighborhood of Saint-Gilles.
Chauvet's Red Shoe Project began in 2009 in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez to raise awareness of the numbers of women and girls who have gone missing in the city.
The installation has since been exhibited in other locations across Mexico, the US and Europe.
