In a video released by the Terrence Higgins Trust to coincide with World Aids Day on December 1, Prince Harry praised the rugby star for his work raising awareness about HIV suggesting it was leading to lives being saved on a daily basis.
The former Wales rugby captain revealed in September he was HIV positive and spoke of his life living with the virus.
The Duke commended Thomas' bravery for sharing his story, saying it was having a "transformational" impact on the stigma surrounding HIV.
Thomas told Prince Harry, during their filmed conversation at the Twickenham Stoop rugby stadium, that he plans to continue to use his professional profile to raise awareness.
Describing his trophies as gathering dust, and looking to the future he said hoped that "this journey of education and breaking stigma around HIV" will leave an everlasting legacy.
Terrence Higgins Trust polling shows 74% of people are aware of Thomas speaking out publicly about living with HIV, and 11% of those said it improved their overall knowledge of HIV.
Thomas is a commissioner for the HIV Commission, a panel tasked with making evidence-based recommendations for ending new HIV transmissions by 2030.
