1:53Now PlayingWomen senators clashed Monday over the Supreme Court nomination of Amy Coney Barrett during the first day of confirmation hearings.
Democrats branded Barrett a threat to Americans’ health care during the coronavirus pandemic, while Republicans claimed lawmakers on the left are trying to undermine her credibility and portray her as a "handmaid," a reference to the dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood.
Republicans are confident the fast-tracked hearings will end with Barrett’s confirmation to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg before Election Day.
Barring a dramatic development, Republicans appear to have the votes to confirm Barrett to a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court.
