2:45Now PlayingSenate Democrats branded Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett a threat to Americans' health care during the coronavirus pandemic Monday at the start of a fast-tracked hearing that Republicans are confident will end with Barrett's confirmation to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg before Election Day.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar criticized the Republicans' efforts.
"This isn't a rush to justice, this is a rush to put in a justice," said Klobuchar. "We didn't choose to do this now, to plop a Supreme Court nomination hearing in the middle of an election. They did."
Klobuchar accused Republicans of misplaced priorities, concentrating on Barrett's confirmation instead of the pandemic.
"It's personal to me because my husband got COVID early on, he ended up in the hospital for a week on oxygen with severe pneumonia. And months after he got it, I find out the president knew it was airborne, but he didn't tell us," said Klobuchar.
Barring a dramatic development, Republicans appear to have the votes to confirm Barrett to a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court.
