0:38Now PlayingNew York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says the city's coronavirus test results have not reached the level that would trigger a shutdown of public school buildings, so schools will remain open for now.
De Blasio said the percentage of people testing positive citywide for COVID-19 is 3.2%, with a seven-day rolling average of 2.74%.
De Blasio had warned last week that schools could close if the city crossed the threshold set earlier of 3% of coronavirus tests citywide coming back positive over a seven-day period.
The mayor said an increase in the number of COVID-19 tests inthe city has "changed the reality" and allowed the city to stay under the numerical threshold.
De Blasio also urged New Yorkers to get inoculated against the seasonal flu, calling it the "most most important flu shot you will get in your life."
