9:31Now Playing(Jan. 11) Watch live as the U.S. House convenes at 11 a.m. ET led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats who will try to pass without objection a resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to remove President Donald Trump from office using the 25th Amendment on Monday, Jan. 11, 2020, in Washington, D.C., following last week’s assault on the U.S. Capitol.
This is all but certain to fail because just one member can block it. If so, then the measure will be put on the floor for a full House vote on Tuesday. The resolution gives Pence 24 hours to respond.
Democrats will also introduce several versions of impeachment articles, one of which has nearly the entire House caucus as cosponsors. If Pence and the Cabinet don’t act to remove Trump from office, the House will begin the process of voting on impeachment as soon as Wednesday.
With just 10 days to go until Trump’s term expires, lawmakers are warning of the damage that Trump could still do before President-elect Joe Biden is inaugurated Jan. 20. Trump, holed up at the White House, was increasingly isolated after a mob rioted in the Capitol in support of his false claims of election fraud.
