1:52Now PlayingChinese city of Shanghai has already vaccinated 820,000 people and the city says it has capacity to hand out 70,000 to 80,000 shots a day — People are receiving one of two domestically-made coronavirus vaccines, one made by Sinopharm and one made by Sinovac.
China has made a global effort to reassure governments and populations about the efficacy and safety of its vaccines. Last October, a group of ambassadors and diplomats representing 50 African countries toured a Sinopharm Group Co. facility amid a publicity blitz touting China’s promise to deliver vaccines to Africa.
As vaccines are rolled out more broadly, greater attention is being paid to dose intervals and whether the time between shots plays a role in the immune response among vaccinated people.
Yang Xiaoming, chairman of the other Chinese Covid vaccine frontrunner, China National Biotec Group Co., said in an interview with the state-run news agency Xinhua last week that its vaccine -- which is already approved in China for general use -- could generate more lasting immunity and higher levels of antibodies if given three or four weeks apart, compared with one or two weeks.
