The operation, which used intelligence from the US, resulted in the deaths of Oseguera and six other cartel members, as well as the wounding of three soldiers and the seizure of various weapons.
The killing has sparked violent clashes and road blockades across Mexico, with US officials praising the strike as a step forward, but also issuing a security alert urging Americans in affected areas to shelter in place.
