New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani declared a state of emergency and closed streets, highways and bridges to most traffic, and is asking New Yorkers to avoid all nonessential travel.
The city has seen a wintry mix of snow and rain, strong winds, and moderate coastal flooding is also possible, with Mayor Mamdani saying "these are blizzard conditions" and the city has activated additional high-water rescue teams.
