According to a research study from Yale University, it is popular to take everything to the extreme now. It’s basic social media. Extreme opinions get more engagement whether it’s likes or hate comments. This increased engagement encourages them to continue to do so.
This creates an endless cycle of outrage and teaches people to use their voice to add fuel to the fire. According to research by Yale, outrage is a learned reaction and moderates are learning from the extremist social media posts.
The researchers claim that this extreme phenomenon is a direct effect of social media’s business model. They said that tech companies have the power to influence the failure or success of movements. They could also affect how social media users react to certain events. This is all because of the social media’s algorithm that celebrates success.
Is it the tech companies' fault or was this bound to happen anyway? Let us know in the comments below!
