1:01Now PlayingA vigil for Edwin Giovanni Lopez Cornejo outside Delaney Hall erupted into fury as protestors confronted ICE agents outside the detention facility.
Cornejo was a 41-year-old father and landscaper from El Salvador who died on Sunday after suffering a medical emergency in detention.
His family reports that Lopez Cornejo called them daily to complain about overcrowded conditions and being forced to drink water from the bathroom sink. He told his family that he was not receiving his medications, which he took to manage seizures, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
Cornejo was eventually taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead. He was 22nd person to die in ICE custody this year, and the second to die at Delaney Hall.
