A Piper Cherokee, N8714N, is returning toward Chandler when the pilot suddenly begins dealing with serious engine trouble and realizes he may not make the airport.
With darkness closing in, the pilot is forced to put the airplane down in a field — but he isn't handling the emergency alone.
A nearby medevac helicopter hears what's happening and steps in to help, providing another set of eyes from above, helping identify hazards and ultimately assisting ATC in locating the aircraft after it goes down.
Captain Steeeve breaks down the ATC audio, the decisions made by the pilot, and why the actions of the medevac crew are such a great example of pilots looking out for one another.
