That means no carry at the parks, walking trails, dog park, splash pad, town square, or gazebo.
Yes, the gazebo.
The HOA sent residents a letter saying firearms were no longer welcome in those shared spaces, and that’s where this gets messy.
Because the Second Amendment restricts the government — not private entities. And an HOA is technically a private contractual association. So while a city or county could not do this, an HOA may have more legal room than people think.
But Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier stepped in and warned the association that enforcing the policy could trigger legal action from his office.
That’s the real story.
A neighborhood board in Florida tried to quietly erase carry rights across an entire community by letter, with no vote, no warning, and no real public fight until residents pushed back.
For years, gun owners have been told, “Nobody is coming for your guns.”
Then an HOA in Florida tried to do exactly that.
