The DOJ Just Went To War With Anti-Gun States

The Department of Justice just sued California and Virginia over their gun bans.

California is being challenged over its Glock ban and handgun roster.

Virginia is being challenged over its assault weapons ban.

And the wildest part is that this is coming from the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division through its new Second Amendment Section.

For years, gun owners have had to fight these laws ourselves.

Our money.

Our lawyers.

Our lawsuits.

Now the federal government is finally saying what we’ve been saying for years:

The Second Amendment is not a second-class right.

Harmeet Dhillon, the Assistant Attorney General leading this fight, laid it out clearly. Glocks are among the most common handguns in America. AR-15s and other semi-automatic rifles are among the most popular rifles in the country. Millions of law-abiding Americans own them.

So why should people in California or Virginia have fewer constitutional rights than people in the states next door?

That is not how the Constitution works.

But do not get comfortable.

This is a major win.

Celebrate it.

But understand what it depends on.

This kind of DOJ action runs on one thing:

Who is sitting in the chair.

A friendly attorney general can file these lawsuits.

The next administration can drop them before lunch.

That is why precedent matters.

A friendly DOJ is a gift.

A Supreme Court precedent is a wall.

One lasts until the next election.

The other gives gun owners something to fight with no matter who is in power.

So yes, take the win.

The DOJ just dragged California and Virginia into court over laws gun owners have been fighting for years.

But keep your eyes open.

Because this fight is not over.

It is just finally being fought by the government on the right side.
