5:48Now PlayingA man scaled a fence at 1 a.m., walked up to another man’s apartment, knocked on the door, and then allegedly forced his way inside after the resident answered.
According to police, the intruder attacked the resident, repeatedly threatened to shoot him, and kept one hand hidden behind his back in a way that made the resident believe he was armed.
Police have not confirmed whether the intruder actually had a gun.
But in that moment, standing inside your own home with someone forcing their way in, attacking you, and telling you he is going to shoot you, you do not get to pause reality and wait for confirmation.
You have to survive.
The resident reportedly tried to stop him at the door.
It did not matter.
Because a door only stops people willing to be stopped.
Once that man forced his way inside, the resident retrieved a firearm from a bedroom, a struggle over the gun followed, and the intruder was shot.
This is what the Second Amendment is really about.
Not hunting.
Not sport.
Not a range day.
It is about having an equalizer when the worst night of your life comes through your front door.
But the most important part may be what happened after the shot.
The intruder left the apartment and ran down two floors.
The resident did not chase him.
He stopped when the threat stopped.
That decision matters.
Because self-defense does not end when the gun goes off. The legal fight can start immediately after.
Even in a case with forced entry, prior threats, and a man allegedly threatening to shoot the resident inside his own home, police still had not confirmed whether charges would be filed.
That is the second fight.
The one without a muzzle flash.
The one that can still take everything you own.
Armed, aware, and willing to stop when the threat stops.
That is the whole lesson.
