This self-defense case sounds like something out of a movie.
A rideshare driver gets swarmed by a mob outside a college apartment complex.
He tries to de-escalate.
He holsters his gun.
He reaches for pepper spray.
He gives verbal commands.
He uses open hands.
Then he gets punched, kicked, blindsided, and slammed into the asphalt hard enough to see black.
So he draws and fires one shot to survive.
And somehow, the police make him look like the threat.
This is the part every armed citizen needs to understand: the fight does not end when the threat runs away.
There is always a fight after the fight.
The police report.
The mugshot.
The charges.
The prosecutor.
The jury.
The months of your life where strangers decide whether you were defending yourself or committing a crime.
In this case, the jury came back not guilty on all three charges after only 40 minutes.
But look what it cost him to get there.
He survived the mob.
Then he had to survive the system.
If you carry a gun, you need more than a firearm. You need a plan for what happens after you use it.
And even after surviving all of that, he still had to face the legal aftermath — a grand jury, the possibility of a double-murder case, and months of wondering whether saving his wife would cost him the rest of his life.
The gunfight is one fight.
The legal fight is the second one.
