After pleading guilty to shooting three of his children and killing his 17-year-old son, Jeffery Smerer listened as his surviving son confronted him in court, saying, “You deserve life plus more. I wish you could live two lives in there.” Prosecutors say even more bloodshed was prevented when the children’s mother and a 20-year-old son intervened to stop the attack.
