He said that the twenty most-watched television broadcasts in the United States and internationally were all Super Bowls, and that football was becoming a "cult" in our country. Mr. Easterbrook also argued that there were many "egregious" tax exemptions the National Football League (NFL) received annually, and noted that the NFL's profit was expected to exceed $9 billion in 2013. He also suggested that college football was becoming increasingly profit-based. In addition, Mr. Easterbrook spoke about the negative physical and cognitive effects football could have on players, including the problem of concussions in youth and high school football.
