Hear about the suicide of Wyoming Senator Lester Hunt from author Rodger McDaniel. Lester Hunt was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1949 where he served on various committees including those involving war crimes of WWII. Early on, he had many run ins with Sen. Joe McCarthy who had been elected two years earlier. For the next few years, Hunt and McCarthy would be engaged in a contentious relationship that would lead to Sen. Hunt’s harassment, blackmail, and eventual suicide. In his book, “Dying for Joe McCarthy’s Sins,” Rodger McDaniel explores the circumstances leading up to his suicide and explains how the nature of his death overshadowed the accomplishments of his life.
