President Trump on Wednesday promoted his proposed "Trump Accounts" as a pathway to long-term financial security for the next generation.

"Every president in modern history has left our children with nothing but debt, but under this administration, we're going to leave every child with real assets and a shot at financial freedom," he said at a summit in Washington, DC.

The accounts are part of a pilot program that would deposit $1,000 from the Treasury Department into tax-advantaged accounts for eligible children born in the U.S. between 2025 and 2028.

The initiative has drawn matching commitments from a growing list of wealthy individuals and corporations, including tech billionaires Michael and Susan Dell, as well as Charles Schwab, Robinhood, SoFi, Uber, Charter Communications and BNY, among others.

Families can contribute up to $5,000 annually, while employers can add up to $2,500 per year per employee. Funds need to be invested in accounts tracking the broader stock market and cannot be withdrawn until the child turns 18.
