YouTube Description
as posted by the channelPresident Trump signed an executive order proclaiming Feb. 22 as "National Angel Family Day," honoring families whose loved ones were killed in crimes committed by undocumented immigrants.
"I am joined by heartbroken Americans who have lost parents, siblings, children, grandchildren and treasured loved ones to the scourge of illegal immigration," he said at the White House on Monday. "These are the angel families that we love, that for decades our government betrayed and our media totally ignored."
The date was selected to honor Laken Riley, a Georgia resident who was killed by an undocumented immigrant on Feb. 22, 2024. Ms. Riley's death prompted Congress to pass the Laken Riley Act early in President Trump's first term, requiring federal authorities to detain undocumented immigrants arrested for violent crimes.
President Trump invited family members of those killed by undocumented immigrants to speak and stand with him as he signed the proclamation. The White House later held a candle-lighting and name-reading ceremony in remembrance of the victims.
"Under the Trump administration, their suffering is forgotten no longer," he said.
