1:50Now PlayingPresident Trump on Monday described the U.S. military campaign against Iran as a "short-term excursion" but maintained the U.S. would not relent until "the enemy is totally and decisively defeated."
"We have won in many ways, but not enough," he said at House Republicans' retreat at his golf club in Doral, Florida. "We go forward more determined than ever to achieve ultimate victory that will end this long-running danger once and for all."
The president also suggested the U.S. would continue to target Iran's top leaders, saying the country's "leaders are gone or counting down the minutes until they will be gone."
"Think of it. We had leaders and they're gone, then we had new leaders and they're gone, and now nobody has any idea who the people are that are going to be the head of the country. And we will not relent until the enemy is totally and decisively defeated," he said.
Earlier in the day, President Trump told CBS News that the U.S. is "very far ahead" of its initial weekslong timeline for the operations, providing a jolt to the stock market, which has been floundering on fears of a prolonged conflict, with particular concern about rising oil prices.
